What is Cosmetic Acupuncture ?

Cosmetic Acupuncture is a method of restoring a vibrant glow to the face and hence helps you look your best. It improves skin firmness whilst softening wrinkles and fine lines. It helps skin tone attain a more youthful radiance. Eyes become ‘brighter’ and look less tired. In addition, there are wider benefits with acupuncture – such as an improved sleep pattern, internal vigour and a general sense of calm.

There are a variety of options to counteract ageing, but for those who prefer a more natural approach to fighting the signs of ageing, cosmetic acupuncture is becoming an increasingly popular choice. As cosmetic acupuncture is not as dramatic as its more invasive counterparts (surgery, fillers, Botox) the results are much more natural. This is because no one feature is singled out for improvement – the whole face is addressed and hence the whole face benefits from a subtle yet effective boost and the effect never looks overdone.

The philosophy of cosmetic acupuncture incorporates a whole body approach. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), our external appearance reflects our internal health. Therefore a balanced internal ‘self’ will extend to our external physical appearance and one exudes a natural healthy glow.

Cosmetic acupuncture is completely holistic so it revitalises you on the outside and balances your internal health. This leads to a greater feeling of well-being and vibrant skin rejuvenation.

The best beauty decision I have ever made – when you mentioned it I thought about it and now I think why didn’t I do it sooner?

It made a dramatic difference to my lips – I felt my lips had become narrow but the cosmetic acupuncture really worked, I couldn’t believe it. I’m not quite Angelina Jolie but the effect is good enough for me.

“I have never had such a powerful response to a treatment … I feel rejuvenated, look fresher and, most importantly, rested”

Case Studies

Ms JB, aged 42

“I first started treatment with Joan in May two years ago as I felt I was starting to develop little lines on my forehead and my eyes were baggy. I also felt I had spare, saggy skin at my jaw and that my face was less healthy looking. I’d met Joan when she was invited to do a talk at the Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester. I was very impressed by her friendly demeanour and liked that as a physiotherapist, she had very good knowledge of anatomy as well as being a specialist acupuncture practitioner for more than 20 years.

She did such a thorough assessment of my general health and it was great to tie my whole lifestyle together and get it all discussed and sorted.

My eyes were immediately great after the treatment – I noticed an improvement straight away, but the most amazing effect was on the lines on my forehead – my forehead was so relaxed I could hardly frown – it was like Botox without the botulism. My best friend was convinced I’d had Botox!

I’ve been seeing Joan on a regular basis ever since, though the sessions are far more spaced out now, because the effect is maintained between treatments. My jaw alignment is now much better too.”

Ms D, aged 60

“I first started to see Joan in July last year. I’d heard about cosmetic acupuncture a few years before and had searched for a practitioner then, but found no one. Then last year I searched again and found Joan. I felt I was looking tired and my face was looking ‘droopy’ and wrinkly especially down by the sides of my chin and at my inner cheeks near my nose. I also felt my neck was saggy and my eyes were baggy. I saw Joan about every two weeks initially for four treatments and then the treatments were spaced out quite a bit more – so now I come every two months for a ‘top up’ treatment. I’m really pleased with the results. My colleagues at work knew it was my ‘big’ birthday last month but thought it was my 50th – but it was actually my 60th!

The treatment has helped me feel relaxed. My neck and jowls are definitely less droopy and my eyelids are far more open – more than they have been for 20 years.

The lines either side of my chin are not bothering me as much, as they are so much better. I’m also sleeping really well these days.”

Ms P, aged 54

“I had read about cosmetic acupuncture and how it can refresh and brighten your complexion. I was feeling stressed and wasn’t sleeping well and had read it could help with that too. I wasn’t keen on Botox.

I met Joan in June 2014 and was immediately put at ease by her friendly yet very professional approach. I was very impressed by her thorough assessment of my general health. She asked lots of questions and it helped me knowing that she has a medical background, as well as a deep knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

My main issues were with deep lines at my mouth, eyes, chin, and neck. The treatment involved the gentle insertion of thin needles into the lines on my face, and at key points on my arms and legs. The needles didn’t hurt much at all.

Even after the first treatment, I felt my face look different – brighter somehow or other, and I was really excited about attending for my next session. I now have had seven treatments and I am really pleased with the results. My craggy lines near my mouth are much less deep – the skin is generally much smoother. I have to say the treatment has really helped clear my chronic sinus problem as well – I was often being sick in the morning due to the sinusitis, and this has all stopped. I’m also sleeping much better since starting the treatment.”
